绞杀现象是植物之间相互作用的一种很残酷的现象，近乎于动物界的弱肉强食，常见于榕属植物的群落中。这类植物依附在被绞杀植物上生长，长出很多气生根，这些气生根沿着寄主植物的树干不断向下延伸，插入土壤中，并逐渐增粗分枝，不断交叉、融合，逐渐将寄主树木网状包裹住，拼命抢夺寄主植物的养分和阳光。最后寄主植物由于营养亏缺不堪重负，几乎无一幸免都要死亡。
